The Firing Team had been pre-positioned across a small ravine from the grave site. They fired three volleys of seven shots each. (This is frequently mistaken to be 21-gun salute, but is a separate ceremony). Each volley sounded like a single shot. The team was extremely economical and smooth in it's movements.
