This 1957 Porsche 356A, serial number 101169, was the dream car of Ernie's life. When the family arrived in Germany in 1955, he told Helen about discovering the make. It was named "The Puddle Jumper" because it crossed the Atlantic 3 times. The family drove to the factory in Stuttgart Germany the summer of 1957 to pick it up. Ernie drove it back to Ramstein with Ed as "co-pilot". It came back to the states with them in 1958. Ernie joined the Porsche Club of America (PCA). (Note the badge on the front bumper). He and Ed regularly went on sports car rallies in it and won several trophies. When the family rotated to England in 1963, the car went back to Europe. He sent it to Ed in College the summer of 1964. Ed drove it until late 1972 when some clown in a Capri thought a stop sign was just for decoration and drove in front of it. With plans to restore it, Ed stored it in his garage for over 30 years. After Ernie's death in 2006 Ed acknowledged he would never rebuild it, and sold it on eBay. This picture was taken at a PCA event, probably in the summer of 1960
