In January 1946 half a dozen 70th Fighter Wing Officers drove to Berchtesgaden in the German Alps. The went to visit Berghof, the captured mountain retreat of Hitler, which had been appropriated by the American military as an R&R facility. It was quite the tourist destination during the occupation and has been retained by the military. It serves as a retreat for tired soldiers to this day. This picture shows Ernie sounding one of the mail coach horns that were in common use in the Alps.
